The A-Z of #MetOnCC date ideas from real life couples – Part three M-S

Meeting someone new for the first time – or even second or third time – can be fun, exciting and nerve-racking. Wouldn’t it be helpful to know some tried-and-tested date ideas that have worked for others? We can help! Couples who first found each other on Christian Connection have shared so many great #MetOnCC date ideas, we’ve created an A-Z blog series to share them. Here are a selection of some fun dates from M to S to inspire your next meet up. From the relaxed to the daring, there should be something different to try.

M

Musicals

Sometimes it’s helpful to have readymade entertainment to give your date a focus. It can be a huge treat to see a big, extravagant show – or an endurance test, depending on your preferences! It’s certainly a date idea that has worked well for several Christian Connection couples.

“We went to see Mamma Mia the musical on our first date as are both big musical and Abba fans. We immediately clicked and couldn’t wait to meet each other the following week.” – Clem and Tash

“Dave took me for a romantic backstage tour of Phantom of the Opera, with very good seats to see the performance afterwards as well.” – Dave & Rachel

Mountain climbing

Scaling the heights can not only give you intense exercise and wonderful views, it’s also a chance to share an adventure and encourage each other along the way.

“Our 1st date was climbing a mountain and we loved it and could appreciate each other’s efforts. He always encourages me, even when I think I am not doing well at an activity!” – Audrey & Craig

Abigail and Alex’s shared love of climbing helped create a significant moment in their relationship – Alex proposed on a rock climbing trip to Canada!

N

Netflix, TV shows and box sets

Sometimes a relaxed date can be just what’s needed to get to know each other in a low key way. A chance to relive your shared love of a special show or to introduce your date to a cultural classic they’ve somehow missed until now!

Your Christian Connection profile has space to add in what you enjoy watching, which can be a great way for someone likeminded to find you and start a conversation: “Colin and I met through Christian Connection and a mutual love of Frasier! We are both so grateful to Christian Connection – we are both romantically very shy and so it was a big help.” – Colin and Emma

O

Off-roading

A bit of adventure and exploration can be great for getting the adrenaline flowing and creating a bond between you. Jody and Veronica are one of several #MetOnCC couples who enjoyed an off-roading adventure date. Watch them tell their story here:

P

Pubs and bars

Whether you use it to break up a hike or head straight for the bar, meeting in a place where you’ll be catered for and can sit back and relax is a classic date for good reason! You could check out quiz nights, open mics and other events, or just enjoy the atmosphere.

“On our first date – a walk and a pub lunch – we hit it off immediately and were both cautiously optimistic of great things to come.” – Dominic & Liz

Emma and Sam in a ball pit - Christian Connection date ideas blogQuirky museums

Sometimes an unusual place to meet can give you lots of talking points and fun photo opportunities. Emma and Sam recommended “selfie museums where you can go in them and do crazy things like an adult ball pit” and shared a photo of them on a trip.

Wherever you are in the world, there’s almost always an unexpected collection driven by local history or someone’s passion or niche interest – whether it’s cats, bad art, fire or whaling – and you can learn as you walk and chat.

R

Running

For the active dater, you could jump straight into your running shoes and hit the track together. It may be a shared interest you can’t wait to explore, or something you are bravely prepared to try at the other’s suggestion!

For some couples, it’s a foundational mutual passion. “We decided we were prepared to at least meet in person – halfway between us – so we planned a date in Leamington Spa for a Lycra-clad 10k run – the perfect first date for two people who like their endorphins!” said Phil and Susie, who were drawn to each other’s profiles when they realised they were both triathletes.

S

‘S’ offers many active date ideas! We haven’t yet heard from a skydiving #MetOnCC couple but there are many stories of getting outdoors and exploring that have helped daters find common ground – or water… If you’re looking for something fun to try, here are some energetic options.

Sailing

“A courageous lady came sailing with me. We ran aground!!! It was a God moment where both she and I responded in the most positive way that neither of us expected, as we both expected the worst, but instead discovered the best.”  – Carolyn & Kerry

Scooting

Proceed with caution, but if you can do it safely hiring scooters can be a fun way to explore an area without too much exertion.

For Georgia and Peter, their first date in person after several months of long distance dating involved jumping on scooters – and then falling off.  “Our first date involved scootering and yeah, I think we were scooter racing, and I fell off a scooter…” – Georgia.

Skateboarding

“After a movie we went SK8boarding near the beach and the rest is history. We just clicked.” – Brian and Joy
